About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a primary contact healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system; affecting the function and mobility of spine, muscles or  extremities, with special emphasis on the spine. It emphasises manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation, exercises. Health and lifestyle issues are also addressed.

Spinal manipulation or  Chiropractic Adjustments are performed in order to help improve the function and mobility throughout the body.  Alignment can be affected by a wide combination of factors and is usually specifically identified in each individual.  Commonly the following factors can be stressors and may play a part in leading to pain or irritation by affecting physique and therefore joint loading/alignment.

  1. Chemical - what you are putting into your body
  2. Emotional - everyday stress and tension
  3. Physical - poor posture, sedentary lifestyle, sporting injuries/stress, workplace ergonomics, pregnancy/birth related issues, wear and degeneration

Altered spinal and joint alignment may place stress throughout spinal and extremity joints, which may consequently heighten joint problems or speed up any wear and degeneration due to an imbalance of joint loading.

Your body will usually alert you when something is not quite right by displaying any effects from the above stressors physically, through common signs and symptoms, like headaches, spinal or limb pain; which can often stem from your neck or back and may be due to spinal nerve irritation.  Irritation can occur if your spine;  a strong bony structure designed to contain and protect the spinal cord and nervous system experiences some form of stress.

If an ache or pain is ignored you may find it is more likely to come back and persist as the original problem may still exist.

The Chiropractic profession has had significant growth and development worldwide as a respected and beneficial evidence based profession and has gained recognition around the world for it's essential place within primary healthcare practices.
